Barbee Farms CSA Fact Sheet

A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a program in which the inherent risks of farming are shared by the consumer. The CSA affords the consumer the opportunity to think and eat seasonally, while supporting local farmers. The members of the CSA purchase shares in advance for a set period of time in order to receive a portion of the available fresh, local, and seasonally available products. In this manner, if the farmer sustains significant crop loses beyond his control, such as crop devastation related to weather or pests, the CSA members absorb some of the loss. Likewise, if the farmer has an overabundant crop, the CSA members share in the plentiful harvest! Barbee Farms has supplied produce for a 30 family CSA over the past year. A full list of items that may be included in a CSA share can be found through the Barbee Farms Product Availability Chart.

A Barbee Farms CSA share will include $20 worth of seasonal produce per week, for 10 weeks, where as a half share would include $10 worth of seasonal produce per week, for the same 10 week period. Either will incur a $20 per season administrative cost to cover CSA boxes, packing materials, and labor.

Barbee Farms will expect its CSA members to pick up their weekly share at the farm each Thursday between the hours of 3pm and 7pm. This assures product freshness. Any CSA share not picked up within the allotted time will become the property of Barbee Farms to be donated to a local food kitchen. If these pickup times do not fit your schedule, please convey this to Barbee Farms to see if an alternative time can be reached.

If you are interested, please print out a copy of the CSA membership agreement. This agreement must be returned with payment by the due dates above to reserve a CSA share. (CSA membership shares may be limited by projected production numbers.) Membership agreements must be returned to the farm in person to allow an opportunity to answer any questions you, or we, may have. Please call 980-521-1395, Brent’s cell number, to arrange a time when someone will be at the farm to meet you.

Barbee Farms prides itself in providing quality, local grown produce to all its customers. Share the experience of eating seasonally with us!
